# Presentations

> A Presentation is a slide deck: a formatted Page and its child slides, each a 16:9 layout Ponder writes.

# Presentations

## Sources

Docs: [Pages](https://docs.parable.work/ponder/parables/pieces/pages.md) (Formats) and the
[Pages Power](https://docs.parable.work/ponder/powers/pages.md), which is what Ponder reads.

## Shape

A Presentation is a formatted Page. The deck root is slide 1, and its child
Presentation Pages are the next slides, in tree order. A slide holds nothing,
so a deck is one level deep. Every slide is 16:9 and reads on the canvas. Its
words and layout change through Ponder, not by typing on the slide. Add a slide
from the tree's **Add** menu, which offers **Slide** on a deck.

A slide is two rows on its Page: the code (`tsx`), which is the layout, and the
content (`page_content`), which holds the words as named regions. Every layout
also has a `notes` region for speaker notes, which the slide never draws. The
presenter view shows them.

## Slide frame

A new slide starts with a layout that draws `eyebrow`, `title` and `body`, and
with no words. Ponder writes every other layout for the slide from your prompt.
There is no list of layouts to pick from. Regions that share a name keep their
words when the layout changes.

Each layout draws inside `Slide` from `parable/pages`. `Slide` owns the 16:9
surface, the safe area (`8cqh 6cqw`) and the theme colours. Its inverse surface
marks a section break or a closing slide. `SlideMedia` holds an image or a live
Pane, and draws a labelled empty frame when there is none. Sizes are container
units of the slide, so text scales with it: titles 7cqh, display titles 10cqh,
body 4.2cqh, and nothing under 2.6cqh. A slide never scrolls.

On the canvas, with a slide open, **Left** and **Right** open the previous
and next slide in the same order Present uses: the deck root, then each slide
and the slides beneath it. The keys stay with a field, a menu or the tree when
one of them has focus.

## Present

**Present** sits at the end of the breadcrumb row on a Presentation, in every
participation mode. It shows the deck full screen from the slide that is open,
or from slide 1 on the deck root. When the address names a slide of the deck,
Present starts there.

Each slide draws with the same renderer the canvas uses, 16:9 and letterboxed
on black, with no app chrome. The slides before and after the one on screen
stay drawn, so a step does not flash. If the browser refuses full screen, the
same view covers the page instead. The deck reads the tree again while you
present: an edit shows at once, and the slide on screen stays the same slide.
The address names the slide on screen, so a link opens the deck there.

| Key | Does |
| - | - |
| Right, Down, Space, Page Down, N, Enter, a click, a tap, or a swipe to the left | Next slide |
| Left, Up, Shift+Space, Page Up, Backspace, P, or a swipe to the right | Previous slide |
| Home, End | First slide, last slide |
| A number, then Enter | That slide, as in PowerPoint |
| G | Every slide in a grid. Arrows move, Enter opens one, G or Esc closes the grid. |
| S | The presenter view, in a second window |
| B or `.`, W or `,` | Black or white screen. Press it again, or move, to show the slide. |
| ? | The keys |
| Esc | Close the grid or the keys, else stop presenting |

The **presenter view** is a second window: the slide number and name, what
comes next, the slide's speaker notes, and the time since you started, with
**Reset**. Its keys and buttons move the same deck. The audience window never
shows the notes, so you can share one screen and read the notes on another. If
the browser blocks the window, Present says so and offers **Open presenter
view** as a click.

When you move the pointer, the counter ("2 / 3") shows with previous, next,
all slides, presenter view, keys and stop controls at the bottom left. They and
the cursor hide after two seconds. Stopping leaves full screen and opens the
slide you ended on in the editor. Presenting never writes: the slides are
read-only while they show. A slide changes in one cut, with no transition.
