# Personal vs. Published Versions

> Separate a Parable’s Collaboration Mode from its retained publication history.

## Story

**Personal** and **Published Versions** are Collaboration Modes. A new composed
Parable starts Personal. Its author can edit the main ref directly, then enable
versioning when work needs separate Changes and participation.

A saved Version is publication history. A Personal Parable can retain earlier
Versions after publishing is disabled, so history alone does not determine its mode.

## Structure

| Choice                      | Result                                                                                                                          |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Stay Personal               | Continue editing main directly.                                                                                                 |
| Enable Publishing & Pinging | Start a Changes set and expose Participants, Pushes, and Publishing.                                                            |
| Publish a Version           | Record reviewed content for its configured audience.                                                                            |
| Disable Publishing          | Return the origin to Personal, pocket open Changes, and remove other participants while retaining main and publication history. |

Published Versions does not mean public on the internet. Workspace access and
Parable responsibilities still govern the audience. Push destinations apply to future
publishes and do not deploy immediately when selected.

## Stability

Disabling publishing does not withdraw existing Workspace copies. Use the appropriate
revoke or retract action when earlier published content must stop reaching an audience.
