# Pets

A Pet is an animated companion that sits on the Parable screen around Ponder. Pets make the work surface feel personal. They are presentation only: adopting, moving, hiding, or changing a Pet never changes Ponder's instructions, access, response quality, available actions, or cost.

Pets belong to a person, not to a Workspace, Problem, or Parable. Everyone starts with one egg. Hatching spends one egg and gives you a random, newly named Pet you have never owned. You can keep one Pet on screen at a time. The Parable Pets control sits at the right of the sidebar footer, beside the appearance and sound controls. Its menu has three tabs. Personal Pets lists the Pets you have. Pocketed Pets lists Pets you put away but kept. Potential Pets shows your eggs, your progress through the catalog as current/possible, and Pets you have let go.

Each person manages only their own Pets. Hatching needs an egg and a free on-screen slot, so pocket the Pet on screen first. Hatching never gives a Pet you have owned before, including one you abandoned. Retrying a hatch that already succeeded cannot spend a second egg or create a duplicate. A reduced-motion setting keeps the Pet still while keeping its pose and place.

1. Hatch a Pet. Ask Ponder to hatch one, or open the Pets control, choose Potential Pets, and choose Hatch a Pet. The new Pet appears at the bottom-right of the Ponder surface.
2. Move a Pet. Drag it by its grip anywhere in the window, across navigation and to either edge. When it has focus, the arrow keys move it, Shift with an arrow moves it further, and Home or a double-click returns it to the center. Parable remembers its position relative to the window size.
3. Put a Pet away. Choose Pocket, or drag the Pet onto the Plop here target that rises at the bottom-center of the main view and release it there. The Pet keeps its name and position under Pocketed Pets. Choose Bring Out to return it.
4. Give up a Pet. Choose Abandon. It moves to Potential Pets in a muted style and keeps its name and artwork. Choose Pity on that row to bring the same Pet back to Personal Pets.
5. Find a missing Pet. Open Pocketed Pets and choose Bring Out. If a Pet is hard to reach, focus it and press Home.

A good result is a Pet placed where you like it, clear of the controls you use, with menu counts that match what you expect. After a hatch, confirm your egg count dropped by one and the new Pet appears under Personal Pets. If Hatch is unavailable, confirm you have an egg and no Pet on screen.

Related Powers: Workspaces. Find each by its title; do not guess stored names.
