# Workspace members

## Sources

Docs: [Login](/protection/login.md), [Switch Workspaces](/protection/workspaces.md)

Web App: **People** lists the Workspace's members. People with permission to invite see **Invite User**. People with permission to manage members can open a member's status badge for its status actions, and the row menu for **Edit Roles**; resending an invite also takes permission to invite. Your own row has neither.

## Invite status

Each row's status badge carries an icon and a color. A member without access
(**Expired** or **Suspended**) shows in red. An invite sends an email with a
link that joins the Workspace. Until the person opens it, their row shows the invite's state:

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Pending** | The invite link works. It stops working seven days after the invite was sent or last resent, or after Parable support last copied the link for you. |
| **Expired** | The seven days have passed and the link no longer works. Hover the badge to see when it expired. |

Opening an expired link and choosing **Continue to Parable** shows "This
sign-in link is invalid or has expired." and does not join the Workspace.

## Resend an invite

Open a Pending member's status badge and choose **Resend**, or **Reinvite** for
an Expired one; both do the same thing. Parable emails the same link again and
sets it to expire seven days after the resend, so the row returns to
**Pending** and the link works. A link from an earlier email works again too,
because it is the same link.

**Revoke**, in the same menu, cancels the invite and the person's pending membership: the
link stops working for good and the person leaves the list. It does not sign
them out of Parable: they never joined this Workspace, and they stay signed in
to any other Workspace they belong to.

## Suspend, reactivate, or revoke a member

| Status | Status menu |
| - | - |
| **Active** | **Suspend**, **Revoke** |
| **Suspended** | **Reactivate**, **Revoke** |
| **Pending** or **Expired** | **Resend** or **Reinvite**, **Revoke** |

**Suspend** pauses a member's access: they are signed out of Parable at once,
in every Workspace and on every device, and cannot sign back in to this one.
They stay in the list with their roles.
**Reactivate** gives a Suspended member their access back at once, with no
email. An invite to a Suspended member's email is refused; reactivate them
instead.

**Revoke** removes a member: an Active or Suspended member is signed out of
Parable at once, in every Workspace and on every device, any invite of theirs
is canceled, and they leave the list. To bring them back, invite their email
again with **Invite User**. They return as Pending with the roles chosen in the
invite, not their earlier ones, and a new invite email.

A Mac that enrolled in [Parable Pulse](/pulse/primer.md) as the member stops
sending activity within about a minute of a suspend or revoke. It sends again
when the member is active again, with no new enrollment. To stop a Mac for
good, revoke it on **Protection → Macs**.

## Edit roles

Choose **Edit Roles** from a member's row menu to change their roles, whatever
their status. A Pending or Expired member gets the new roles when they join.
Editing roles sends no email and leaves the invite and its expiry as they were.
Your own row has no **Edit Roles**.
