Docs: Primary Web App: Open People → Participants to search people and Roles and edit their participations. The list shows Roles, then People, and a change shows at once. A Publish or any other change to the Parable does not block it. If someone else changed the Participants after the list loaded, the change is not saved and the list shows theirs. People → Publishing holds publication actions and history; People → Deployments searches and lists Workspace destinations. Publishing is the second-highest of the four participations on a Parable: Primary, Publishing, Pinging, and Peeking. A person who holds Publishing may edit Pieces, Propose, Prepare, and Publish a set of Changes. They may also Pull a Delivery, run a Refresh, run a Preview, and pocket, restore, or delete a set of Changes. Primary may do everything that Publishing may do. Some acts are for Primary only: giving, moving, or removing Primary, switching the Collaboration Mode, and raising the budget of a Pipeline that paused at its caps. Publishing may not do these. One person can hold Primary and Publishing when the current policy allows it, but the meanings remain distinct.

Work within the visible boundary

Publishing does not grant Workspace access or make every action available. The current surface, Parable state, target, and participation are checked together. Disabled actions remain visible with an explanation when the product can safely show them. Use the role to:
  • keep one coherent Patch moving through review;
  • bring in the required collaborators;
  • prepare or propose work when it is ready;
  • carry out reversible operational actions within the allowed scope; and
  • ask a person who holds Primary to decide what only Primary may do, rather than treating urgency as permission.
If a participation is wrong, change it through the supported People → Participants flow. A mention, Ping, Power, or Ponder Message cannot give a participation implicitly.

Give Publishing, Pinging, or Peeking

Publishing can give Publishing, Pinging, or Peeking to other people. Publishing cannot change Primary. Giving Primary to yourself, another person, a Role, or a Workspace requires an existing Primary to make the change. Renaming a Role does not change its participations.

Choose Publishing mode when you edit

A participation and the mode you work in now are separate. A person who holds Publishing or Primary can choose Publishing mode when they intend to edit, review publication state, or use the complete set of controls their participation already permits. The mode cannot widen that participation.
